Who I Am and What I Do

My name is Emily and I’ve been reading tarot cards for over a decade and practicing spiritual counseling for two.

The spiritual counseling I do is a combination of spiritual advising using divination tools such as tarot cards, astrology, and numerology and psychic healing through both verbal and soul-to-soul communication. I feel called to do this work because I believe that the only way I can help heal the Earth and the human collective is by healing one individual at a time. It is my mission to heal as many hearts and spirits as I can and leave the world a better place than I found it.

I am not a guru. My purpose is not to tell you how to live your life or what to believe. I will also not predict your future because I firmly believe that your destiny is in your own hands. I may see potential future outcomes and I may reveal them to you if I sense it will serve you to do so but I am not a fortune teller. You are your own fortune maker and my goal is to guide you in a direction that will empower you and lead you to a sense of inner fulfillment that doesn’t depend on external circumstances to be realized.

I do not consider the divination tools I use to be the only tools available for a person to access deep truths about reality. I consider the symbolism of the Tarot, astrology, and numerology to be my personal spiritual languages which I use in a two-way communication process with a higher realm that can’t be understood with the conscious mind. These tools allow me to tap into my intuition and offer insight and wisdom that is applicable to individuals of nearly every belief system. You do not have to believe in the power of the tools I use for me to be able to offer you healing and guidance.

Why I Call Myself the Black Moon Oracle

On the surface, the moniker “Black Moon Oracle” may seem a bit sinister or even silly. However, for me, it’s deeply symbolic to my personal mythology.

I was born during a new moon that caused a near-total solar eclipse within hours of my birth. If you don’t know anything about astronomy, a new moon occurs when the moon is between the Earth and the sun and so its lit half faces away from us and is thus invisible. The only time the new moon ever suggests its presence is during a solar eclipse when, if you’re standing at just the right place on the planet at just the right time, the shadow of the new moon will block the light of the sun.

In astrology, if you are born during a new moon, your sun and moon will be in the same constellation of the zodiac. This means your sun and moon sign are the same. So if you’re a Leo and you were born on a new moon, your moon sign will be the same as your sun sign and you will be referred to as a “double Leo”. If you’re interested in finding out what phase of the moon you were born during, you can visit moonpage.com.

I am a double Scorpio, a sign associated with darkness and I got a double dose of it. Scorpios generally get a bad rap because we tend to be secretive and mysterious which allows others to project their worst fears onto us. We’re accused of being deceitful, vengeful, and even cruel, none of which I’ve found to be overwhelmingly accurate of those born under my sign. It could be related to the fact that the symbol for our sign is a lethal insect. It could also be related to the time of year we’re born. Our birthdays fall near the pagan holiday of Samhain which Halloween is based on. It is said that this time of the year is when the veil between the land of the living and the land of the dead is the thinnest because it is the transition between the light half of the year and the dark half of the year.

On top of being born during a new moon that caused an eclipse and being a double Scorpio, I was also born on All Souls Day, the final day of El Dia de Los Muertos (AKA The Day of the Dead). And the Major Arcana card in the Tarot that represents the sign of Scorpio is Death. So there is a great deal of darkness associated with my birthday.

This might lead someone who’s superstitious to believe I’m something akin to the devil incarnate but that’s not how I view myself. I’ve dealt with a tremendous amount of darkness in my life and so I see the darkness associated with my birth as fitting. I’ve had to dig deep within myself throughout the course of my life to find my own strength and light in the face of great fear and overwhelming hardship. Because of this, I have become comfortable with the darker aspects of life and I’m not afraid to face the darkness in others because I have become my own light source which cannot be extinguished.

I find the eclipse that occurred just after my birth to be in harmony with my life’s purpose to illuminate the darkness for those struggling to find a way out of it. The eclipse can be seen as a blotting out of the light or it can be seen as the illumination of the darkness – symbolized by the shadow of the new moon being momentarily revealed by the light of the sun – that usually conceals itself but is always with us nonetheless.

There is nothing darker than black and nothing blacker than that of the new moon’s shadow crossing the path of the sun and so I refer to myself as the oracle of the black moon. What are you the oracle of? Have you created a mythology to tell the heroic tale of your own life? Are you afraid to because you don’t think you’re a hero or are afraid people will view you as egotistical if you do?  It’s important to believe in your own heroism regardless of the opinions of others and you don’t have to save the world to qualify as a hero. You just have to save yourself.

May whoever reads this be blessed with love and light and the courage to use it to embrace even their most formidable demons.
